Hume-Fogg Academic High School names alumnus to continue basketball success
Nashville, Tenn. (July 16, 2024) – Hume-Fogg Academic High School taps alumnus Ross Fleming IV as the new boys’ head basketball coach. Fleming replaces former head coach Barry Mangrum, who retired in May. The Blue Knights are coming off an impressive season, including their first appearance in the TSSAA state basketball tournament in 35 years, and look to make an even deeper run next year.
“As an alumnus and former basketball player at Hume-Fogg, Coach Fleming knows all too well the ins and outs of being an athlete and a scholar,” says Executive Principal Dr. Kellie Hargis. “He can relate to the students, serving as both a role model and mentor to his team. I am overjoyed to have this Blue Knight return to the castle.”
Fleming brings high school and college coaching expertise to the Blue Knights basketball program. He has served as varsity boys’ assistant basketball coach and junior varsity head coach at Battle Ground Academy. He also coached at Cumberland University as the men’s assistant basketball coach, offensive coordinator and director of recruiting.
“I am deeply honored and excited to be named the head boys' basketball coach. As an alumnus of this esteemed institution, returning to lead the program is both a privilege and a homecoming for me,” says Fleming. “Hume-Fogg has always held a special place in my heart and played a significant role in shaping who I am today. I look forward to working with our talented student-athletes, helping them to grow not only as players but as individuals. Go Knights!”
Along with coaching, Fleming belongs to several professional basketball organizations. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University and master’s from Belmont University.
